About the instructor:

Sarah started dance classes at three years old and by the time she turned eSight, knew she wanted to focus solely on ballet. Shortly thereafter she began training at Contra Costa Ballet Centre in Walnut Creek, under the direction of Zola Dishong, Richard Cammack, Charles Anderson, Rachel Greenwood, and Nikolai Kabaniaev. There, she studied classical ballet technique encompassing Vaganova and Balanchine style, Petipa and Balanchine repertoire, and character, modern and contemporary dance. Sarah also trained at the Kirov Academy of Ballet in Washington D.C. She has performed various roles in the classical ballets La Sylphide, Paquita, La Bayadere, and The Nutcracker, as well as in several contemporary pieces. She participated in the HeART at Lines teaching artist training and exchange in the summer of 2024 and draws inspiration from many teaching artists including Anne Fisher, Mary Armentrout, Robert Greer, Sandra Chinn, and Mary Carbonara, and Anne Green Gilbert.
The desire to share her love of dance and movement is a driving force in Sarah’s life and teaching career. She was introduced to Pilates for rehabilitation as an injured teenage ballerina. As a Pilates instructor, she knows firsthand the benefits of targeted strengthening and dynamic flexibility and loves to train dancers for both injury prevention and rehab. Sarah’s vision of her Pilates practice is to work with all ages, body types, and fitness levels to help people gain and maintain balance, strength, and flexibility, along with ease and efficiency of movement.
Sarah currently teaches ballet to students from the age of 3.5 to 75 at the Conservatory of Classical Ballet in San Leandro. She has a private Pilates practice and teaches out of the studios Root and Limb in Berkeley, and Precision Point in Oakland. Sarah has a bachelor’s degree from UC Berkeley in Interdisciplinary Studies. In her spare time she likes to take more dance classes, rollerblade, hike, and volunteer to make her community a more equitable place.
